Search your library without leaving a chat

Click the magnifier in the toolbar, or press Ctrl+K (⌘+K on Mac), to search your library on top of the chat you are in. Open a result and Echoes highlights your words in it, with ▲ and ▼ to move between them.

Why it matters

Halfway through a Claude chat you need the numbers from a ChatGPT chat last month. Going back to the library loses your place. The search palette opens over the page, finds the chat, and closes again when you have it.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the search palette

Click the magnifier in the toolbar (tooltip Search your conversations (Ctrl+K)). Ctrl+K works when the Echoes window has focus. ChatGPT and Claude use Ctrl+K for themselves inside their pages, so click the magnifier there.

  2. 2

    Search

Type and press Enter. The palette uses the same search as the library, operators and filters included, and lists up to 40 results. Click a result's match count to preview the matching lines.

  3. 3

    Open a result

Use ↑ and ↓ to pick a result and press Enter, or click it. Ctrl+Enter or Ctrl+click opens it in a new tab.

  4. 4

    Step through the matches

Echoes highlights your words in the chat and shows an Echoes matches panel at the top right: ▲ (Previous occurrence), ▼ (Next occurrence), the position, and a count per word. Drag the panel by its header. ✕ clears the highlights.

  • Closing the palette keeps your search. Open it again and the results are still there.
  • Open full library at the bottom of the palette takes the search to the library, where labels and date filters are.
  • In long chats some matches load as you scroll. The panel says how many are still hidden.
