Why it matters

You're researching a purchase across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. The useful bits are scattered over nine chats. A note pulls them into one page, with the source chat named under each passage, and you can export it as a PDF when you're done.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Create a note

Click Notes on the left rail, then New note. Type a title, then the body. Echoes saves as you type; there is no Save button.

  2. 2

    Format it

Use the bar above the text: bold, italic, strikethrough, code, heading, subheading, quote, bullet list, numbered list and checklist. Markdown works too: # for a heading, - for a bullet. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+E give bold, italic and code.

  3. 3

Save a passage from a chat

In a conversation, click the notebook icon in the toolbar (Select text to save it to a note). Select text. A Save to note card shows the passage and your notes: click one to add the passage, or New note to start one named after the chat.

  4. 4

    Find and export notes

Search notes searches the full text of your notes and shows the matching lines. The PDF icon above a note (Export as PDF) saves it as a PDF.

  5. 5

    Delete a note

Click the trash icon on a note. Undo appears for a few seconds, and deleted notes stay recoverable for 7 days.

  • Each saved passage keeps its formatting and ends with the name of the chat it came from.
  • The highlighter and the notebook can't both be on in one tab. The highlight card has its own Save to note button.
  • Notes are stored on this computer and don't sync to your other devices.
  • Include notes in a handoff with the Notes row in Continue in.
