Echoes vs AI Toolbox (ChatGPT Toolbox): which one fits how you use AI?

AI Toolbox started as ChatGPT Toolbox, a Chrome extension that adds folders, search and a prompt library to ChatGPT. It now has modules for Gemini, Claude and Grok too. Echoes is a Chrome extension and a desktop app that pulls your chats from seven AI platforms into one library you can search and organize.

Both tools solve the same complaint: you can't find last month's chat. They price and package that fix in different ways.

Platforms

If you use ChatGPT and nothing else, both tools cover you. The gap opens once you use DeepSeek, Perplexity or Google AI Studio. AI Toolbox does not list those. Echoes reads all three, and one search box covers every connected account across the seven platforms.

Packaging matters too. AI Toolbox sells each AI as its own module, so a ChatGPT plus Claude setup costs two subscriptions unless you buy All Access. An Echoes plan covers every platform Echoes supports.

Search

On the free plans the difference shows up on the first search. AI Toolbox shows the first five results. Echoes Lite shows every match, and caps you at 20 searches a month instead. Paid plans on both sides remove the limits.

Echoes search reads the message text and takes AND, OR, NOT, quoted phrases and filters such as service:claude or date:last30days. Plus and Lifetime add Echo, an assistant you can ask in plain English ("the chat where I planned the Q3 budget"). The advanced search tutorial lists every operator.

Where AI Toolbox is ahead

• A prompt library and saved prompts. Echoes does not manage prompts.
• A team plan with per-seat billing.
• PDF export. Echoes exports HTML, which you can print to PDF from the browser.
• Firefox and other browsers. The Echoes extension is Chrome only for now.

Where Echoes is ahead

• Seven platforms instead of four, under one price.
• A desktop app that stores your synced chats in a local database, so they stay readable if a platform hides old chats or you go offline.

Which one to pick

Pick AI Toolbox if your team lives in ChatGPT and wants shared prompts and seat billing. Pick Echoes if you work across several AIs and want one place to search all of them. The Echoes Lite plan is free and covers all seven platforms, so you can load your own history and run a few searches before you pay.
